In feng shui the bathroom is a space of purification that washes away and expels the body's murky energy — but it is also where water and moisture linger and yin energy easily pools. The point of bathroom feng shui is one thing: "expel it well, and don't let it linger."
A bathroom left wet is a classic space where yin energy pools. The 30 seconds of running the fan well after a shower and squeegeeing the floor water once is the most powerful bathroom feng shui. The rule is to keep the bathroom door closed normally — to stop the bathroom's damp energy from flowing into the bedroom or living room. For a windowless bathroom, placing charcoal or a dehumidifier is a traditional remedy too.
"Close the toilet lid before you flush" may be the most famous bathroom feng shui. In feng shui water is wealth, so an open toilet and drain read as channels for wealth to slip away. Hygienically, too, closing the lid before flushing prevents droplet spread — two birds with one stone. Regularly cleaning hair and grime from the drain also counts as "cleaning the path of wealth."
Bright colors like white and ivory are the basis for a bathroom. A dark bathroom intensifies yin energy, so keep the lighting bright and clear moldy silicone and grout lines the moment you see them. Keeping towels dry and unified in bright colors lightens the energy of the space. One plant tough against shade and moisture — pothos or ivy — softens the bathroom's yin energy and brings life to the space.
A structure where the bathroom door directly faces the entrance, kitchen, or bed is disliked, as murky energy heads straight into spaces of good energy. If you cannot change the structure, keep the bathroom door closed at all times and place a doormat and small plant in front of it to create a buffer zone. Piling laundry inside the bathroom for long also grows damp yin energy, so it is better to separate it.

The bathroom washes off the day. Check whether your mind needs a rinse too.
