Personality, love, career & compatibility by sign
Four elements paired with three modalities give 4 × 3 = 12. The twelve signs take one of those combinations each — no two signs share the same pairing.
Fire responds through action, Earth through substance, Air through thought, Water through feeling.
Cardinal opens a season, Fixed holds it at its fullest, Mutable hands it over to the next.

There are twelve signs but only ten rulers: Mercury rules both Gemini and Virgo, and Venus rules both Taurus and Libra. Each sign’s daily reading turns on where its ruler sits right now.
A sign boundary is set by the position of the Sun, not by a calendar date. Each time the Sun crosses another 30° of the ecliptic the next sign begins, and that moment shifts by several hours every year. Two people born on the same March 20th can end up with different signs. If your birthday falls on a boundary you need your time of birth to settle it — each sign page lists the exact times year by year.
The moment one sign gives way to the next is the same moment as a jungi (中氣) in the 24 solar terms. That is not a coincidence. The twelve Western signs cut the Sun’s ecliptic longitude into 30° steps and the 24 solar terms into 15° steps, so the twelve jungi fall on the sign boundaries without a single one out of place — Aries opens at the spring equinox, Cancer at the summer solstice, and so on. They are two ways of cutting up the same sky.
